The InSeries: STORMY WEATHER
October 2019

There is an oily polish to his presentation, like the gleaming scales of a tomb asp just before it strikes; slathered in sleaze and driven by a carnal need for power and domination, Watkins slips through "Another Pyramid" and "Like Father, Like Son" like a demon God of the underworld, despicable and pernicious.

If Aida's Disney roots are visible anywhere in this production, its in the character of Radames' father, Zoser (Greg Watkins), whose wicked laugh and unabashed scheming puts him alongside such cartoon villains as Ursula and Scar....

Watkins is a treat to watch play Junie, first strutting his stuff in a flashy tailored suit, slinking along like a panther on the prowl with a gorgeous roaring voice. His transition through the stages of grief when he realizes the gravity of his aunts' situation is hauntingly funny - his channeling Esther Rolle's haranguing lament as Florida from "Good Times" is a gem.
